Vacation Bible School Prayers

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is more than just a long holiday of Bible studies and stories. It provides an opportunity for people—kids and students alike—to birth faith in their lives and in the life of the entire church. For the kids who show up with snacks, the teacher preparing a striking lesson from the Bible, and the volunteers running around with cards and drawings, prayer is indispensable. Prayer is what keeps hope alive throughout Vacation Bible School.

During these moments, facilitators of VBS can become overwhelmed and forget to whisper prayers on the go, but prayer is designed to be seamless and a part of our lives. It can be said in the car, in the hallway, in the office, or during the slow walk to the stage. All God needs is our faith and belief in Him and His Word, because when we pray, we make room for God to do amazing things—even in the most difficult situations.

Vacation Bible School Prayers

Vacation Bible School Opening Prayer

Dear God,
Thank You for bringing us together for Vacation Bible School. As we begin this special time, we invite You into our hearts and minds. Help us learn more about You, have fun, and grow in Your love. Please bless our teachers, volunteers, and every student here.

Your Word says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). So we rejoice today and give this time to You. Let Your joy fill every game, song, and lesson. Guide us in everything we do.

We want to grow closer to You, Jesus. Help us understand Your Word and keep it in our hearts. “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law” (Psalm 119:18).

We love You, Lord. Please bless this whole week. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Vacation Bible School Prayer for Teachers

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the amazing teachers You’ve given us this week. Please bless them with energy, patience, and joy. Help them teach us with kindness and love, just like Jesus taught His followers.

Your Word says, “Whoever teaches must do so with the strength God provides” (1 Peter 4:11). So please give them strength and wisdom today. Fill their hearts with peace and their minds with Your truth.

When we have questions, help them answer with grace. When we need help, let them show Your love. Thank You that they care so much about us. Bless their families too.

Please remind them that their work matters. “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).

In Jesus’ name, I pray for every teacher today.
Amen.

Vacation Bible School Prayer for Kids

Dear God,
Thank You for all the kids here at VBS! I pray that each of us feels loved, welcomed, and excited to be here. Help us to be kind, to listen, and to have tons of fun learning about You.

Your Word says, “Let the little children come to me… for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). Thank You for loving us just the way we are. Help us love You back with our songs, our smiles, and our hearts.

Teach us more about Jesus every day. Help us make new friends, laugh a lot, and stay safe. We want to remember that You are with us in everything we do.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Help us grow strong in our faith.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Vacation Bible School Prayer for Volunteers

Father God,
Thank You for the kind volunteers who help make VBS so special. Thank You for their smiles, their time, and the love they give. Please bless them in big ways for all they do behind the scenes and out front.

Your Word says, “Serve one another humbly in love” (Galatians 5:13). That’s exactly what they do. Please give them energy, joy, and strength today. Help them know they are making a big difference.

If they ever feel tired, remind them that “whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Their kindness reflects You, Lord. Let them feel Your presence and peace as they serve.

Thank You for every snack handed out, every craft prepared, and every smile shared. Bless them deeply and let them see Your light shining through their work.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Vacation Bible School Prayer for Fun and Safety

Dear God,
Thank You for the fun times we’re going to have at Vacation Bible School. Please keep us all safe—whether we’re playing, singing, dancing, or making crafts. Watch over us every minute of the day.

Your Word says, “The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” (Psalm 121:8). We trust You to take care of us. Help us be careful, make wise choices, and look out for each other.

Let laughter fill our classrooms and joy fill our hearts. Help us to try new things, be brave, and enjoy every moment. “A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Proverbs 17:22). Fill us with that cheerful heart today!

Keep us all healthy and strong throughout this week, Lord. And thank You for being the best protector ever.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Vacation Bible School Prayer for Guidance and Wisdom

Heavenly Father,
Please give us Your guidance and wisdom today. As we learn more about You during VBS, help us understand Your Word and apply it to our lives. Teach us how to follow You every day.

Your Word says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God… and it will be given” (James 1:5). So we’re asking You now, Lord—fill our hearts with wisdom and truth.

Show us how to make good choices, how to treat others with kindness, and how to grow in faith. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). We trust You to lead us today.

Help our leaders and teachers have wisdom too, so they can guide us well.
Thank You for being our Shepherd.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Vacation Bible School Prayer for Preschoolers

Dear God,
Thank You for all the little ones here today. Please bless our preschoolers as they learn about Jesus in their own special way. Fill their hearts with joy and wonder.

Your Word says, “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise” (Psalm 8:2). Let their tiny voices praise You with songs, laughter, and giggles. Help them feel safe, loved, and cared for every moment of VBS.

Thank You for the teachers who help them learn. Give them patience and joy too. Help our preschoolers share, listen, and enjoy every part of the day.

Please keep them safe and healthy. Let them rest when they need to and play with happy hearts. Bless their little hands and feet as they discover how much Jesus loves them.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Vacation Bible School Closing Prayer

Dear Lord,
Thank You for this amazing time we’ve had at Vacation Bible School. You’ve helped us learn more about Jesus, make friends, and have fun. We’re so thankful for every lesson, song, and game.

Your Word says, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion” (Philippians 1:6). Even though VBS is ending, we know You are still working in our hearts.

Help us remember what we’ve learned and share it with others. Let the love we felt here continue in our homes, schools, and everywhere we go. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).

Bless our teachers, leaders, and new friends. Keep us safe until we meet again. Thank You for being so good.
We love You!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Conclusion

As VBS comes, it’s easy to feel both full and a little tired—full of joy, new memories, and maybe a few too many cookies. But beyond the crafts and songs, something deeper has been planted: faith, love, and truth that will grow in the hearts of everyone who took part. Prayer helps water those seeds, and even after VBS is over, those prayers don’t stop working. God heard every word, saw every tear, and smiled at every small act of kindness shared in His name.

So as a student learning about Jesus for the first time or a teacher returning for your tenth year, don’t stop praying. Let the lessons and love you experienced carry into your everyday life. Keep asking God for guidance, wisdom, joy, and protection. And remember, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion” (Philippians 1:6). VBS may end, but God’s work in us never does.
